Bridges and Crowns
Are missing teeth preventing you from leading a happy and healthy life?
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and Bridges are a permanent solution to help you recapture the health and appearance of your smile after tooth loss. Having severely damaged, decayed or aesthetically lacking teeth can be very frustrating for a lot of people.
People who have one of these situations may not smile as much, which will really affect their confidence and self-image.
Porcelain Crowns
If you want to have better looking teeth, then Porcelain Crowns may be the solution for you. This is a permanent restoration to improve the look of your smile and enhance the health, structure and function of your teeth.
It may be necessary to have a Porcelain Crown if a tooth is in a poor condition. This may be the case if a tooth starts to crack, break or is decayed or diseased. These conditions are mainly caused by ageing of the teeth, grinding of teeth, large fillings, poor oral hygiene, improper bite and discoloration after root canal therapy.
Porcelain Crowns basically have two functions. These are structural or aiding the strength of the tooth and aesthetic or improving the way the tooth looks.
CEREC – One Day Crowns
What is a CEREC Crown?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and is a crown created using advanced digital technology. Divine Smiles uses this computerised design and manufacturing technology (CAD/CAM) to make a solid ceramic crown that looks and feels lifelike and natural, blending in beautifully with your existing teeth, all while you wait. What is the procedure for CEREC Crowns?
The procedure for making a CEREC crown is comfortable and non-invasive, and there is no need for a conventional tray impression. Initially, our dentist will gently examine your tooth to make sure it is suitable for crowning. Next, we numb the tooth to ensure you feel comfortable during your treatment. Our dentist carefully shapes the tooth, removing all damaged or infected tissues and ensuring there is enough room to create the crown. When your tooth is ready, we digitally scan it using a tiny handheld camera. The camera takes multiple images to create a 3-D dental impression of the tooth. After the scan is complete, we download it onto our computer where our dentist will check the impression carefully. Because the impression is digital, we can magnify certain areas to check the tooth preparation thoroughly. The dentist designs your crown then sends the design to our on-site milling machine. We select a block of pre-shaded porcelain that is milled into your crown. Once ready, we hand-finish the crown, individually characterising it and polishing it, so it is ready to fit. Our dentist will try the crown in your mouth, checking it fits precisely before bonding it in place. The entire process can take as little as an hour. What are the Advantages of a CEREC Crown?
Advantages of choosing a CEREC crown include:- You receive your crown on the same day, so there is no need for a temporary crown or a second visit
- CEREC crowns are ideal when you break a tooth just before a special event or holiday and do not want to wait two weeks for a new restoration
- CEREC crowns are digitally designed and made, providing a precision-fit that gives better protection for teeth
- CEREC is durable, hard-wearing, plaque and stain-resistant, and is highly biocompatible with your gum tissue
- Because CEREC crowns are metal-free, they transmit the light in a similar way to natural teeth and can look wonderful
- CEREC is an excellent system for crowns, and we can also use this technology to make ceramic fillings, called inlays and onlays, which are virtually invisible once in the mouth. The ceramic material used in CEREC is strong and ideal for creating larger fillings for restoring cavities in back teeth.
Dental Bridges
Bridges on the other hand are installed to replace the gap caused by a missing tooth. The Bridge is anchored by two adjacent crowns.
If you are missing a tooth, having a Bridge installed can provide you with two benefits. The first is that it can improve your teeth aesthetically and the second is that it will prevent your teeth from shifting out of position after tooth loss.
The great thing about Bridges is that they can be custom made according to the patients need. The colour or shade can be customized in order to match the surrounding teeth of the patient in order to achieve a natural look.
